Frequently asked questions

How do you make money from SpecSearch?

We charge vendors and manufacturers a subscription fee or a pay-per-upload fee to list their specs on the platform. This allows us to keep the search side free for architects, engineers, and contractors.

How is my data used and is it secure?

We take privacy very seriously. Any data you provide is used solely to improve your experience on SpecSearch, and we do not share it with third parties. Our platform is built with security in mind to keep your information safe.

What industries do you currently support?

We’re starting with the swimming pool industry, but we plan to expand into HVAC, construction materials, and other fields as we grow.

How do I get started as a vendor or a user?

If you're a manufacturer or vendor interested in joining SpecSearch, we'd love to hear from you. During our founding phase, we provide a white-glove onboarding experience where our team works directly with you to build your product catalog, organize engineering documentation, and prepare your company for launch on the platform. Engineers, architects, contractors, and facility owners can begin exploring publicly available products immediately. Creating a free account provides additional features such as saving favorites and requesting access to manufacturer-controlled documentation.

What should I do if I have a problem or need help?

We offer customer support via email, and we’re always here to help you with any issues or questions you might have.

Can I download files without creating an account?

Yes. Public files are free to browse and download. Creating an account unlocks favorites, project folders, rate/review, and history.

What file types do you support?

CAD (DWG/DXF), Revit (RVT/RFA), STEP/IGES, PDFs, images, and ZIP archives. Vendors can upload multiple file types per product.

Do you verify manufacturers?

Yes. Vendor accounts go through a lightweight verification to reduce spam and ensure content quality.

Can products be marked private or shared only with a link?

Yes. Vendors can keep drafts private, share via secret links, or publish publicly.

How are sponsored results ranked?

Sponsored results appear at the top of relevant searches with a “Sponsored” label. We track clicks at $10/click and never mix them with organic rankings.

Is there an API?

An API is planned so firms can sync libraries into their own internal tools and BIM standards.
